Audie Award Winner, Mystery, 2014

Andy Carpenter's accountant, Sam Willis, receives a surprise call from Barry Price, a friend he hasn't spoken to in years. Barry needs Sam's financial acumen and Andy's legal expertise. But when Sam almost runs over an injured dog on the way to Barry's house, he can't drive off without waiting for help. By then, Barry's taken off on a private airplane headed to who-knows-where. Soon after they learn that Barry's plane has crashed, and they come to the terrifying realization that Sam was also supposed to have been killed on that plane. Barry was in far more serious trouble than either of them knew, and for Sam and Andy, the trouble is only beginning.

Unleashed Andy Carpenter Book 11 (Audible Audio Edition) David Rosenfelt Grover Gardner Inc Listen Live Audio Books

Like the previous ten books in the Andy Carpenter series, this one makes for a fast-paced and fun read. Rosenfelt balances the thrilling action with his usual humour and fun banter between the series-regular characters. This time, Andy finds himself with an unwanted client at the behest of friend and computer-guru, Sam. Sam’s high school sweetheart has been charged with the murder of her wealthy husband. But his death soon proves to be just one amongst many - a part of a high-level plot set to unfold on Memorial Day. The large scale of the conspiracy and the political angle makes this one of Carpenter’s more “big-picture” cases. As a result, the book itself is a bit lighter in the courtroom drama. With a tight timeframe, the plot moves along quite quickly and some of the series’ longtime characters have less of a role here than typical of the series.

But there are some new characters introduced and I hope to at least hear more about Crash in the next books in this fun series. These books always make for reads that fly by with their brief chapters that make it so easy to just “read one more chapter”. For the most part, this book will work if read out of order, as not too much of past plots are revealed here. Still, I am glad that I have read this series in order. This is one of the more straightforward plots in the series, but after finishing it, I am, as always, eagerly awaiting the next book!

Unleashed Andy Carpenter Book 11 (Audible Audio Edition) David Rosenfelt Grover Gardner Inc Listen Live Audio Books Reviews

I love the Andy Carpenter mysteries. The mysteries are well plotted and the characters are great. I also love that there is a lot of humor in these novels. I got a real kick out of Sam adopting Crash and the funny situations involving them. One of the things I do miss is that Andy and Sam used to do song talk and they have stopped and that was always one of the funnest things about these novels. One more thing and this is for - why are the kindle versions so expensive? I won't buy it if it's over $10 and it seems like I have to wait forever before I can get them at a reasonable price.
I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5, only because it was really good, but not as good as the novel before this one, Leader of the Pack, was for me. But then Leader of the Pack had more of a story line about Tara and that always makes it a 5 star for me. Other reviewers will give the storyline, but let me add that as always Andy and the other characters in the novel make it an enjoyable read. If this is the first of the series you've read, I encourage you to read the others in the series. They all are very good mysteries and well worth the time to read them. Even though I was a little, very little, disappointed, I still couldn't put the book down until I knew the mystery was solved.
How do you do it? How can you time after time write such good, wonderful to read, stories? Wow! This is such an enjoyable book. Full of action, suspense, mystery. As people always say "I just couldn't put it down"! Had to finish it! I love your humor mixed into the story. I can be reading a suspenseful, scary type part and then just laugh out loud. Your stories are easy to follow and enjoyable to read. Most of the time I read books because I do want to escape and I don't want to have to think too much, just read the words on the page and use my imagination! Your books provide me with just that, a way to relax, unwind and enjoy. Thank you very much for those times of humor and sheer pleasure!
This was definitely one of the very best D.R. Books. I hope I still have one or two left, but I sure hope that David keeps writing. It’s the only time I get to giggle in the middle of a tense stand-offs with guns — and Marcus — involved.
The thing that makes the author stand out is his leavening of plots with change of pace humor. Despite numerous blubs on the back of many books touting the zany, laugh out funny plots almost none actually follow through. With Andy Carpenter you get the payoff. Not that the author is Dave Barry but the humor is a nice touch. In this book there is a local murder that involves some of Andy's usual likeable crew. There is also a back-story involving a plot that is a major threat to our national security. This micro/macro divide is included in other Carpenter books. At first I thought the ploy was a distraction but I've come to like the subplots. As noted all of Andy's crew are here and bring their own personalities to the story. There is also Crash a rescued doggie who enters early on and doesn't play a big role but is good for comedy relief. Do yourself a favor and try Rosenfelt's books, both the Carpenter series and his stand alone novels. The author has saved 4000 dogs through his Tara Foundation and I'd buy the books based on that alone but they are very entertaining stories.
Not the best. Slow start, it seemed. The characters are becoming dull with no growth in sight. Andy's sexual obsession with Laurie is getting tiring. Now, it is Sam's turn to go to trial. Who's next? Marcus? This international intrigue is quite a stretch. So are Andy's exploits in doing his own "investigating." The book isn't bad. I wish versions had chapters. I will keep reading Rosenfelt's books because they are lightly entertaining They are also cheaper than the over-priced first-runs of e-books that I am waiting to read.
I started out liking these books, but the characters are getting tiresome and predictable. They never change Andy gripes about working, then takes a case. He complains about his secretary who doesn't do any work (why does he keep her?). He walks his dog, drinks beer with his friends, watches sports and obsesses about Laurie. Laurie puts up with his insecurities. The plots take way, way too long to develop into anything and are getting a little farfetched. I am almost a third of the way through Unleashed and Andy is just now meeting with the prosecutor. I have no idea where the plot is going and what’s more, I don’t really care. It isn’t enjoyable to read a book you have to struggle through.
